Prostatitis Symptoms

Who gets prostatitis symptoms?

Prostatitis, inflammation of the prostate gland, can cause a variety of symptoms that range from annoying to very serious. Prostatitis is usually due to bacterial infection of the prostate gland. Prostatitis is most common in older men, though younger men can develop prostatitis; particularly that associated with sexually transmitted infections such as from chlamydia infection.

Common prostatitis symptoms

When prostatitis develops in men it can cause frequent urination as well as pain in the urinary tract when urinating. Men with prostatitis often complain of burning when urinating, urgency of urination, and hesitancy of urination. Prostatitis can also cause blood in the urine, which is usually only visible when the urine is examined under a microscope. Severe prostatitis can lead to infection in the bloodstream, referred to as sepsis. Sepsis can cause lightheadedness, dizziness, chills, fever, and require hospitalization and intravenous antibiotic treatment.
